AN ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO
FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR BURN SURVIVORS

The Alex Collazo Memorial Scholarship

by Patricia Collazo

Alex Collazo was born on September 16, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois. Alex and I married in 1998 and have four beautiful children; three boys and one girl. Alex was working for Com Ed when on June 6, 2008, an underground explosion resulted in Alex suffering burns to over 87% of his body.  He fought valiantly for his life over the course of six months before passing on December 9, 2008.

Alex was a loving husband and father.  There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family.  He always stressed to his children that they should strive to be the best person they can be.  He loved coaching the boys’ baseball team and had a passion for cars.  He was a very hard worker, called many his friend and had the kind of smile that simply lights up a room.

We know that he is always watching over us because that is what he was always best at.  Alex’s children and I are thrilled and honored to have this scholarship named in his memory.  Alex would be very proud in knowing that, even today, he is helping someone fulfill their dreams.
